Black Triangle Teeth Treatment (Bioclear) in London

Improve the integrity of your gums & the appearance of your smile

Holland Park Dental is delighted to announce that we now provide a new, revolutionary treatment to close black triangles, using a minimally invasive technique called Bioclear.

What Are Black Triangles?

Black Triangles are spaces that are present between the teeth and the gum line. Unfortunately, they can attract unwanted attention when an individual is smiling. Not only can they make an individual look older, but they can also serve as food traps and can harvest plaque, tartar, food and stains. This can potentially lead to gum disease and tooth decay.

Why Do I Have a Black Triangle in My Teeth?

Triangular spaces (AKA black triangles) can form over time as the gums recede or when there is bone loss in your jaw. Most adults have them to some extent. They are also very common after a course of adult orthodontics. When teeth have been crowded and crossed over for a very long time, then the gum in between the teeth does not get a chance to form properly.

When braces straighten the teeth, in some areas of the mouth, small to medium triangular spaces may appear at the gum level. In adults, the gum will NOT grow back to fill in the spaces.

The spaces can be exaggerated if coupled with poor oral hygiene and also vigorous use of inter-dental brushes.

Can Black Triangles in Teeth Be Fixed?

In the past, patients have typically covered these imperfections by using techniques to disguise them, such as the placement of dental bonding or porcelain veneers. These require the part removal of the natural tooth structure, which should be avoided whenever possible.

Fortunately, a solution called the Bioclear matrix system can be used to treat black triangles. The procedure preserves the natural tooth enamel while filling the area aesthetically. This system ensures beautiful results without removing any of the natural tooth structures.

How the Bioclear Matrix Method Works

The Bioclear method uses specially shaped forms and tooth-coloured composite material to close the dark spaces between teeth and gums.

In addition to black triangles, Bioclear works well for other applications too, including closing diastemas (spaces between teeth) and reshaping peg laterals (small or misshapen teeth).

With Bioclear, the treatment for black triangle teeth is simple and minimally invasive:

  1. The teeth are cleaned, and local anaesthetic is used to make the procedure pain and discomfort free.
  2. The matrix is shaped and placed.
  3. The filling material is bonded to the tooth.
  4. The material is shaped and polished to a high lustre.

Bioclear gives patients a beautiful, strong, and long-lasting dental restoration without the expense of porcelain veneers.

More than just aesthetic appeal, Bioclear is also an important contributor to oral health. By filling the black triangles in teeth and pressing the papilla (the gum that hangs down between your teeth) back into place, Bioclear keeps food and debris from getting stuck there, which in turn helps reduce plaque build-up, bacterial growth, and gum inflammation minimizing the risk of periodontal disease.

As it turns out, fixing the black triangles is not just a cosmetic procedure, but also supports a healthier mouth!
